Two Israelis Killed In New West Bank Shooting Attack (Video)
On February 26, two Israelis were killed in a shooting attack that took place near the northern West Bank town of Huwara.
In a statement, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said that a Palestinian gunman opened fire at an Israeli car on the Route 60 highway, before fleeing the scene. Both casualties were identified as residents of the nearby Israeli settlement of Har Bracha.
The IDF has launched a manhunt for the gunman, who is yet to be identified. Several roads in Huwara and nearby areas were closed.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said that he will hold an assessment with security officials later on the day. His office said Gallant was being “regularly updated on the details of the terror attack.”
The Hamas Movement said that the attack was a “natural response” to Israeli “crimes,” while the Palestinian Islamic Jihad called it a “heroic operation.”
The deadly shooting attack came as Israeli and Palestinian officials were holding a meeting in the Jordanian city of Aqaba to discuss ways to stabilize the occupied West Bank and the Gaza Strip after a wave of violence.
In recent weeks, 11 Israelis were killed in Jerusalem and the West Bank attacks carried out by Palestinians. The IDF and security forces responded with a series of operations that claimed the lives of at least 60 Palestinians.
