Chelsea are looking to salvage their season against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday.

The Champions League represents Graham Potter’s only chance of silverware having failed in both domestic cup competitions.

But there’s serious work to be done.

Chelsea trail 1-0 after Karim Adeyemi’s sensational solo effort helped the Bundesliga heavyweights to a 1-0 victory in the first leg.

Many believe the outcome could be make or break for Potter, who’s won 10 of his 27 matches since replacing Thomas Tuchel in September.

But the Englishman did manage to break a six-game winless run against Leeds over the weekend and they registered a whopping 19 efforts on goals at the Westfalenstadion three weeks ago.

Dortmund, meanwhile, will fancy their chances given their recent form.

The German outfit have won every single competitive match since returning from their World Cup hiatus (P10, W10) including Saturday’s 2-1 victory over RB Leipzig.

But they’ve not managed to keep a Champions League clean sheet on the road since November 2020 and will likely need to score to advance.

Graham Potter is confident that full-back Reece James will be available for selection having missed the victory over Leeds on Saturday.

Winger Christian Pulisic is also pushing for contention.

Chelsea will, however, be without Thiago Silva, Mason Mount, N’Golo Kante, Cesar Azpilicueta, Edouard Mendy and Armando Broja.

Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel is likely to miss out having been withdrawn against RB Leipzig over the weekend.

That could hand a start to Alexander Meyer. Other doubts include Donyell Malen and Karim Adeyemi with Youssoufa Moukoko, Julien Duranville and Mateu Morey also sidelined.

As mentioned, Borussia Dortmund haven’t managed an away clean sheet in the Champions League since November 2020.

Chelsea ended a run of 396 minutes without a goal against Leeds courtesy of Wesley Fofana, and we think they will build on that with Dortmund’s second-choice goalkeeper between the sticks.
