Alaska's 1,000 mile Iditarod dog sled race celebrated on weekend

ANCHORAGE, Alaska: The Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race began this weekend with an 11-mile ceremonial leg through the streets of Anchorage, Alaska's largest city.

Thousands of people lined the streets to cheer on the mushers for the ceremonial start of the race.

On March 5 the race's competitive stages began, which will take mushers and their dogs nearly 1,000 miles across Alaska.
