Cannabis dispensary coming to Canton on Route 44
Cannabis sales are coming to the Town of Canton, after the planning and zoning commission approved an application for an adult-use retailer on Route 44.
The special permit applicant, Slap Ash LLC, will open the shop at 195 Albany Turnpike, in a vacant 3,000-square-foot building that used to be a Bank of America branch.
The board’s vote on March 1 was unanimous in favor of the plan.
The vote had been continued twice, and had public comment at the Jan. 18 meeting. At that meeting, nine citizens spoke against the plan and four in favor of the plan. At the Feb. 21 continuance, seven spoke against the plan and none in favor.
The shop’s permitted hours are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays. For the first two weeks, only pre-ordered pickups will be allowed.
No on-site consumption will be allowed. Evergreen shrubs will be planted along the property line to create a buffer between the shop and adjacent residential neighborhoods on Canton Valley Circle.
Slap Ash, which the state qualified last year for social-equity status, is based in Glastonbury, but its principals are based out of state: Ashley Vaughn of Florida and Amanda Ostrowitz of Illinois. Both are natives of the Hartford area.
