White Claw who? SunnyD spikes its drink with vodka and joins the hard seltzer craze
Hot commodities like Budlight Seltzer, High Noon and Truly have a new competitor hitting the shelves later this month — SunnyD Vodka Seltzer.
The childhood American favorite plans to put its new beverage, SunnyD Vodka Seltzer, on the shelves of select Walmarts starting March 11, according to a news release from Sunny Delight Beverages.
In 2017, Sunny Delight branded drinks rose in popularity again after the company was sold to Brynwood Partners, the owners of Harvest Hill Beverage Company, the release stated. Since 2019, they’ve seen a 30% growth.
The new spiked juice, sweetened with stevia, according to the drink’s website, will still have the “boldly original” “tangy orange” taste that fans would recognize, officials said.
Buyers can expect a 4.5% alcohol content, 95 calories, zero grams of sugar and a price tag of $9.99 per four-pack, officials said.
The gluten free seltzer also comes in 12 ounce individual slim cans, according to their website.
The brand’s origin story — of two Floridian dads in 1963 that looked at an orange tree and thought “good, but we can do better” — has evolved into a product “rooted in nostalgia but with a taste that resonates today,” the company said.
With summer around the corner, Sunny Delight suggests you grab a few friends and soak in iconic drink’s glow up.
“SunnyD Vodka Seltzer is meant to be enjoyed with friends, when it’s time to connect and chill out,” Chief Marketing Officer Ilene Bergenfeld said.
