Report: Senior Spurs stars pleading with former fan favourite to return
Sky Sports have revealed that several senior Tottenham Hotspur players and staff are pleading with Mauricio Pochettino to return to the club.
The possibility of a fairytale return to Spurs for Pochettino has been talked up over the last few days, with The Athletic suggesting on Tuesday that the Argentine might want an emotional reunion, having been tempted to return to the North London club back in 2021.
However, the publication questioned if Fabio Paratici will want the 51-year-old to return and suggested that there might not be room for both of them at Tottenham.
Sky Sports have now revealed that senior members of Spurs squad are hankering for a return to the progressive style of play that was employed by Pochettino as well as the former Tottenham manager’s ability to develop players.
It is explained that while Pochettino is viewed warmly by the Tottenham hierarchy, including Daniel Levy, the club will not be swayed purely by emotion when scouring for Conte’s replacement.
Tottenham crashed out of the UEFA Champions League last night following a toothless display against AC Milan in which they failed to push the Italian’s for a place in the quarter final.
The report states that Levy and co not only remember the heights of Pochettino’s tenure but also the reasons why the project eventually ended back in 2019.

Even putting the emotion out of it, there is no doubt that Pochettino is one of the best qualified for the job.
The fact that he knows many of the players at the club and could potentially make use of the players we have out on loan, is an added bonus.
The only person that I feel would be a better appointment for Tottenham is Roberto De Zerbi, whose job at Brighton has parallels with the job Pochettino did at Southampton. I have no doubt that the Italian is going to be at a top club sooner rather than later.
