New Orleans, LA – The fifth-seed Patriots went a perfect 5-5 from the field and 14-14 from the free throw in the fourth quarter to complete a second half comeback as Cumberlands defeated 13th-seed John Brown 75-67 in the Second Round of the NAIA Tournament Wednesday night at The Den. With the win, Cumberlands advances to the Round of 16 for just the fifth time in program history and the first time since 2010.
"I'm thrilled for our team!" said Head Coach Rick Reeves. "They played team basketball and fought until the final buzzer and I couldn't be any prouder of this group."
Kassie Monday lead the way with 16 points and five assists, while Destiny Haworth hit five three-pointers to finish with 15 points. Lakin Burke and Channing Lewis combined for 23 points and six rebounds, while Kaylie Monday netted all nine of her points in the fourth quarter to go along with three assists and four rebounds. Victory Fredricks grabbed 11 rebounds in the win.
