Connecticut Post Mall institutes curfew policy requiring kids under 18 to have adult supervision
The Connecticut Post Mall in Milford has implemented a policy that will not allow kids under 18 to visit the shopping center on Saturday evenings without adult supervision.
The Parental Guidance Program, which has previously gone into effect during the holiday season, prohibits juveniles without a parent or guardian from visiting the mall after 4 p.m. on Saturdays.
Adults 21 and older can supervise up to four juveniles, who must remain together at all times, the policy states. Any unsupervised juvenile in the mall on a Saturday must either leave by 4 p.m. or be joined by a supervising adult.
Security at the mall has the right to ask shoppers for identification to prove they are 18 or older, according to the Connecticut Post Mall website. Those supervising other juveniles may also be asked to prove they are 21 or older.
Anyone who cannot provide the proper identification may be asked to leave, according to the program policy.
In previous years, the Parental Guidance Program was put into effect around the holiday season. The mall’s website indicates the program this time around will remain in effect until February 2024.
The Connecticut Post Mall over the years has had reports of several fights breaking out. In December 2019, Milford police said multiple fights were reported in the mall in the same evening, prompting the early closure of the facility and a mutual aid response from state police and officers from Stratford and West Haven.
In September 2022, several fights were reported during the same evening, including one in which multiple youths were pepper sprayed.
Earlier this month, a teenager from Derby was arrested after two fights were reported at the Milford mall on the same day.
