Man struck by car, killed while crossing the street in Hamden

A 67-year-old man was killed while crossing the street in Hamden on Thursday night.

The Hamden Police Department said the victim, identified as John Gursky, was hit by a car in the area of Dixwell Avenue and Beacon Street around 7 p.m.

Gursky, a Hamden resident, was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to police.

The driver involved in the accident did not report any injuries, police said.

The incident closed Dixwell Avenue for several hours while the Hamden Police Department Accident Reconstruction Team responded.
