In the clip we saw Makenzie wearing a baggy t-shirt, with some of her hair up, as she attempted to do a strand test on a chunk of her hair.
In the hope of dying her brown hair blonde, Makenzie attempted to try a ‘pull test’, but things quickly went wrong.
The ‘pull test’, also known as a ‘tug test’, is a simple way to measure the severity of hair loss.
During a pull test, a dermatologist grasps small sections of hair, about 40 strands, from different parts of the scalp and gently tugs.
If six or more strands fall out, you have what’s known as active hair loss.
But Makenzie decided to try the test and instead of gently tugging her hair, heavily grabbed a huge chunk.
She said: “POV: You’re bleaching your hair and do a “pull test”.”
In the video, Makenzie added bleach to a large strand of her hair before giving it a tug.
But much to Makenzie’s surprise, a massive chunk of her hair fell out, leaving her open-mouthed.
Her video has clearly shocked many, as it quickly went viral and has since racked up 1.5million views.
It has 66.7k likes, 373 comments and 495 shares.
Social media users were left in horror at Makenzie’s hair fail and many advised her that she did the test incorrectly.
One person said: “That’s why your test strand is supposed to be SMAALLLL. Usually you cut off a VERY small amount and tape it to foil or w/e and bleach it. Not a CHUNK.”
Another added: “Yeah you pulled way too much… lol I’m a stylist. This made me sad for you.”
A third commented: “You’re supposed to do it after you rinse off the bleach.”
Whilst another user pointed out: “The no gloves with the bleach is bold. I know that burns” to which Makenzie replied “My fingers are still raw… never again.”
Meanwhile, someone else asked: “Wait, why would you pull your hair while bleaching it?” to which Makenzie responded “Someone told me to do a pull test to make sure my hair was still strong.”
Mackenzie later said: “It made me sad too.
“I need some help fixing my hair.
“My hair grows fast though so it’s okay.”
