Daisy Jones & The Six is taking over the small screen and here’s how you can recreate the iconic looks
DAISY Jones & The Six has sparked a huge conversation ever since the series hit Amazon Prime earlier this month.
The series, which is based on the book of the same name by Taylor Jenkins Reid, has not only proved to fill our evenings with entertainment, but our minds with fashion inspiration.
Whether you have read the book, watched the series, or maybe even both, you may have found a penchant for seventies fashion, which is exactly the theme behind Daisy Jones & The Six.
The book and mini series follows the journey of a rock band trying to navigate the music and entertainment business in the late seventies in Los Angeles.
Since the Amazon Prime show, which stars Suki Waterhouse, Sam Claflin, Riley Keough, and Camila Morrone, sees the cast slip into flared jeans, short shorts, fringed jackets and waistcoats, as well as bohemian dresses and blouses.
The seventies inspired fashion has proved to be a huge hit with shoppers since the show, as John Lewis has reported a rise in flares by 43%, jumpsuits by 100%, as well as clogs, according to Stylist.
Free People are evening launching a Daisy Jones & The Six-inspired capsule collection, which is set for release on 13 March.
Daisy Jones & The Six’s costume designer, Denise Wingate, did her best to stay true to the book and the details Taylor referenced in the 2019 bestselling book.
Speaking to Harpers Bazaar, she said: “I felt for sure that Taylor was very specific about her outfit descriptions and we had to address them.
“I wanted to make it look really authentic, like a documentary, because it reads like a documentary. I didn’t want it to look, like, costumey—with people dressing up for the 70s.”
We’re huge fans of seventies style, with oversized and floaty fabrics, muted colour palettes, floral prints and textures, and suede, leather or silky blouses.

Flared jeans
Flared denim jeans, in a darker blue denim, are a staple when it comes to channelling the seventies style.
A super flattering cut, the flared style elongates your pins thanks to a high waist.
Some flares may be tighter around your thighs, while others have a slightly more wide leg fit all along the leg, before ballooning out.

Bohemian dress
The seventies is all about floaty fabrics, lightweight materials, loose fitting designs, fluted sleeves and billowy designs, especially when it comes to dresses and blouses.

Denim jumpsuit
We know we mentioned flared denim jeans, but a denim jumpsuit is also a huge nod to the iconic era, which is music to our ears as we personally love a jumpsuit.
Opt for a short sleeve jumpsuit, or sleeveless design with a halterneck for full-on seventies style.
Some may prefer a flared leg, straight or cinched in, and that is your personal preference, but one thing for sure is a denim jumpsuit is a timeless wardrobe staple.

Clogs
Clogs have crept in and out of our wardrobe for many years, and now the heeled mule is back – thanks to Daisy Jones & The Six.
A clog can be flat or heeled, but in most cases the heeled is a preferred style to elevate those spring/summer looks. You can pair them with skirts, dresses, and jeans, to take your outfit from day to night.

Cowboy boots
In the 70s cowboy boots, suede, tassles, and fringing were all the craze, and we are over the moon the footwear staple is back.
You can pair with maxi dresses, as well as mini and midi designs, style with jeans, the options are endless.

Suede fringe jacket
Yes, yes, yes and yes.
A suede jacket is one thing, but a vegan design, with fringing, and in an earthy red hue, ticks all the boxes.
When it comes to shopping a fringe jacket we recommend a rusty red, or camel hue, because they add a pop of colour to the closet, and will never date.

Pair with your flared jeans and boots, even layer over the fringed jacket, or wear with smart trousers to the office, the look is super versatile.

Kimono or Kaftan
We love a kimono or kaftan, especially in the summer months, whether you are heading off into the sunshine, relaxing by the pool and want a cover up, but you can also layer over dresses, skirts, and jeans for a little je ne sais quoi too.
In the Amazon series Daisy wears a sheer black kaftan, which are emblazoned with sequins.
Turns out this exact design is part of Free People’s upcoming collection which will land in stores on 13 March.

In one scene in Daisy Jones & the Six, Daisy boldly wears an oversized men’s shirt to a recording session – and nothing else.
Brave, bold, but we love it.
Some may replicate this look for cosy days and nights at home, or even dare to wear in the warmer months, while some may prefer to layer denim shorts, or jeans underneath.
Either way, it’s a subtle nod to the series, the seventies, and an easy way to channel your inner Daisy.

Round rimmed sunglasses, tinted shades, or square designs, are all hugely synonymous with the seventies.

A turtleneck jumper may sound like an unusual seventies style hack, but actually it’s super significant especially in Daisy Jones & The Six, as Karen Sirko – played by Suki Waterhouse – is introduced wearing the basic.
Costume designer Wingate told Harpers Bazaar: “It was very specific that she’s wearing a turtleneck at the opening of the book—and we had to stay true to that.”
