Created by writer Kevin Williamson and director Wes Craven, "Scream" is a highly popular satirical horror franchise. Since debuting in 1996, the film series has become notable for its clever social commentary, meta-humor about horror tropes, and traditional slasher twists.
The "Scream" franchise primarily follows Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) as she and her friends are terrorized by various masked killers under the guise of Ghostface. The first five films focus on Sidney and recurring characters like Dewey Riley (David Arquette) and Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox), although each "Scream" movie features new additions to the cast and different Ghostface killers.
The latest entry in the franchise, "Scream 6," is now playing exclusively in theaters. It's the first movie in the series without Neve Campbell, though it does still feature appearances by some actors from the earlier films, like Courteney Cox. It also stars several returning cast members from the fifth "Scream" movie, including Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera.
If you're looking to catch up on the entire "Scream" franchise before seeing "Scream 6" in theaters, you're in luck. The first five movies can be streamed or rented online from several services.

Will there be a 'Scream 7'?
"Scream 7" has not been officially announced yet, but the filmmakers behind "Scream 6" are hopeful that another installment will be made. When asked about the potential for a seventh movie at the "Scream 6" premiere, directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett told Deadline that they want to continue the franchise.
Whether "Scream 7" gets the greenlight or not will likely depend on the box office performance of "Scream 6."
Is there a 'Scream' TV show?
The popularity of the "Scream" film series also spawned a TV show on MTV and VH1. The "Scream" anthology series ran for three seasons from 2015 to 2019. Though it's inspired by the film franchise and does feature a Ghostface killer in season three, the show has no direct connection to the movies.
You can watch all three seasons of the "Scream" show on Netflix.
