Serious injuries reported in I-84 crash in Southington involving tractor-trailer

Serious injuries were reported in a car crash on Interstate 84 in Southington late Friday morning involving a tractor-trailer and another car.

The accident shut down the eastbound side of I-84 in the area of Exit 33 for about an hour after the crash was reported shortly before 11:30 a.m., according to the state Department of Transportation. The left two lanes later reopened, while the third lane remained closed.

State police Friday afternoon confirmed the crash involved serious injuries.

LifeStar was initially called to the scene before the emergency helicopter was canceled. State police said at least one person was taken to an area hospital in an ambulance.
