UNAMA Condemns Despicable Attack on Journalists in Afghanistan’s Balkh
The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) strongly condemned the attack on journalists on Saturday in Mazar-e-Sharif, Balkh province, which left at least three people dead and 30 others injured.
UNAMA said that attacks on journalists are unacceptable on its official Twitter account.
“UNAMA strongly condemns despicable attack on journalists in Mazar-e Sharif, Afghanistan, latest unacceptable incident in the city”.
The statement also admired the Afghan reporter’s courage and urged a quick stop to violence against journalists in the country.
“Violence must stop. Afghan reporters show immense courage and must be protected,” the statement read.
The UNAMA also said, “We express condolences to victims & wish a quick recovery for injured”.
The explosion targeted Afghan journalists’ gathering during an award event at Tebyan cultural Center, killing at least three journalists, and 30 were wounded, including several members of the Center.
In the past three days, there have been two explosions in the province of Balkh; the first was a suicide bombing that claimed the life of the governor of that province, Mullah Dawood Muzmal, while the second explosion targeted gatherings of journalists.
