Nobel Prize-winning Japanese author Kenzaburo Oe has died at the age of 88. Oe's novels, which were built from his childhood memories during Japan's postwar occupation and from being the parent of a disabled son, were noted for their poetic force and for their depictions of the human predicament today. Oe's most searing works were influenced by the birth of Oe's mentally disabled son in 1963.
