South Africa’s citrus exports expected to decline by 5.7m cartons this year
Following what had been an extremely tough year for citrus growers, the Citrus Growers’ Association of Southern Africa (CGA) predicts that 5.7-million cartons less than initially expected, therefore a total 164-million cartons, will be exported starting April.
The CGA also anticipates that only one in five growers will make a positive return this 2022/23 season, owing to a surge in farming input prices and transport costs compared with the prior season, as well as astronomical shipping price hikes.
