During filming at Belmont House near Faversham, a wide range of antiques and collectibles were presented to experts, including a French porcelain doll named Lady Eleanor.

The doll showcased petticoats and a bonnet and left viewers feeling unsettled.

Taking to Twitter, one viewer tweeted: “Creepy doll klaxon!”

Another wrote: “Spooky doll time.”

A third penned: “Dolls are scary.”

The expert, Bunny Campione, explained the history of the collectable and well-loved family item.

She said: “I think this is the best dressed doll I’ve come across for a very long time. Did you play with her?”

The owner revealed she had belonged to her mother and her great-grandmother.

The expert then then highlighted the delicate detail of the doll including a mohair wig, leather shoes and Parisian style petticoats and dress.

She added: “What’s so lovely about her is that she has a French body. French body means that it’s a wonderful kid leather. She was a very expensive doll in her time. She was probably made in Paris.

“I think she’s one of the earliest 1860s and her shoes – Look at her shoes! It’s amazing. She’s even got heels! She is wonderful. She’s got what we call mohair wig, which is actually a mountain goat.”

When it came to the all important valuation, the owner and viewers were left stunned.

The expert revealed: “I’m going to stick my neck out because I think I can see her making as much as £2000.”

The owner was overjoyed with the price as she replied: “Wow.”

Antiques Roadshow returns to BBC One on Sundays at 8pm.
