‘Deeply in love’ couple, 19 and 20, found dead cradling each other after vanishing on Halloween
A YOUNG couple were found dead in woodland cradling each other after leaving heartbreaking final messages, an inquest heard.
Charlie Eccleston, 19, and Zaiga Gravenieks, 20, were discovered hanged in Shenley, Hertfordshire.
The couple had vanished on Halloween in 2017 with the tragic find made five days later.
Charlie’s mum Jo told an inquest into their deaths: “They lived together, died together and at their request were buried together.”
The hearing was told Zaiga was found with her arm around Charlie’s shoulder.
They had spray painted the words “towards eternity” and “4 Ever” on a heart symbol in the secluded woods.
Post-mortem exams found the couple, who had traces of cocaine and cannabis in their system, both died from asphyxia.
The inquest heard Charlie had struggled with his mental health from the age of 12.
The talented musician, who sang and played guitar in metal band Desert Smoker, had shown signs of psychosis.
His mum said: “Although he had no love for himself he adored Zaiga. Zaiga was a talented artist. She dreamt of being a tattoo artist.
“She was stunning beautiful. You could always see her love for Charlie.”
Zaiga’s mum Ausma told the court her daughter had been diagnosed with anorexia and Asperger’s.
She had been studying music at Bedford college but became too unwell to continue.
Ausma added: “She and Charlie were deeply in love.”
The inquest continues.
