You’ve been cutting your onions all wrong – the right way means you’ll always get even cubes and it’s dead easy
ONIONS are the base for loads of dishes, but id you know you’ve probably been cutting them all wrong?
The right way will leave your recipes looking so much more posh and you’ll always get even cubes too.
Chef Joshua Weissman shared how it’s done by the pros and it makes all the difference.
Posting on Instagram the cooking pro showed how most people cut their onions, which “works just fine” but it’s definitely not the best way.
So how should you be doing it?
According to Joshua, you should start by peeling the skin off your onion and cutting it in half, removing both ends.
Then take apart each layer and slice each section lengthways, keeping each slice attached at the end.
This will make things easier for the next step which is to cut the opposite way, making sure your slices are the same size.
Repeat the steps on each layer, rather than the more common method of slicing each of the onion together.
“This is the only way you’ll get onions this fine,” Joshua raved, showing off the dainty cubes.
Food fans loved his method for perfect cubes, one commented on the post: “Yes! I’ve been doing it this way for years.”
A second agreed: “I’ll try this next time for sure!”
But not everyone was convinced by Joshua’s method as some thought his trick took way too long to bother with.
“If you just cut an onion the traditional way but make finer slits and slices it comes out the same way lol.
“No professional has time for this,” one Instagram user slammed.
Another commented: “Nah that’s a waste of time and you can still get it finer than that dice the original way.”
“Not wrong, I just prefer more rustic off shapes,” someone else wrote.
