Brighton boss De Zerbi comments on his future amid links with Tottenham job
Brighton and Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi has told BBC Sport that he is happy at the club, despite rumours linking him to the Tottenham Hotspur managerial role.
De Zerbi took over from Graham Potter when the latter took the job at Chelsea earlier this season, and the Italian coach has continued the impressive work Potter put in place at Brighton.
The South coast club are currently seventh in the Premier League table, just three points behind fifth-placed Liverpool with two games in hand on the Reds.
Even if Brighton were to end up in seventh this year, it would mark their best-ever Premier League placing, improving on last year’s ninth-placed finish. (Transfermarkt).
It is believed current Spurs boss Antonio Conte will leave the club at the end of the season (Football.London).
Reports suggest the Tottenham hierarchy have been impressed by De Zerbi’s work at Brighton (Football Insider) and The Athletic revealed the Italian is part of the shortlist to replace Conte.
With all the compliments coming his way, and speculation linking him to the Tottenham job, De Zerbi took his opportunity to tell the press about how happy he is at Brighton.
He said: “The people are speaking about our quality of play and for us we are proud.
“We have to be focused only on the next games and we have a clear focus, a clear target. For the players, for me, it’s the same.
“I have a long contract with Brighton. I’m happy to work here, I’m enjoying working with these players.
“I’m delighted with my players, for the performance of my players, and I can’t ask for more because for me it’s a good moment of my work, of my life.”
Spurs Web Opinion
De Zerbi is doing a great job at Brighton and has his team playing some brilliant, exciting football.
He’s certainly a manager I would be happy to see at Tottenham, though I do not think he will leave Brighton in the immediate future, so the timing might mean we look elsewhere.
