Donald Trump’s YouTube channel restored after 2-year suspension

YouTube has restored former President Donald Trump’s channel after a two-year suspension following the Capitol riot.

‘Starting today, the Donald J. Trump channel is no longer restricted and can upload new content,’ tweeted YouTube on Friday morning. 

‘We carefully evaluated the continued risk of real-world violence, while balancing the chance for voters to hear equally from major national candidates in the run up to an election.’

The company added that Trump’s account ‘will continue to be subject to our policies, just like any other channel on YouTube’.

It comes after Twitter and Facebook’s parent company Meta reinstated Trump’s respective accounts. Trump has not yet resumed posting on the platforms.

YouTube suspended Trump’s channel a few days after the January 6 insurrection, stating that he violated its policies for sharing content that incited violence.

After a month, YouTube said it would lift restrictions on Trump uploading content once ‘the risk of violence has decreased’.
