My dog died after becoming ‘overheated’ by dryer at grooming salon – I’m so angry
A DEVASTATED dog owner claims her beloved pooch died after becoming “overheated” at a grooming salon.
Kerrie Brown, 40, had only dropped off three-year-old chow chow Bonnie for a wash and trim.
But she was phoned by staff two hours later to say the dog was “being sick”.
Bonnie then collapsed and was rushed to the vets, who had no choice but to put her down.
Mum-of-two Kerrie fears the dryer was on her pet for too long without a break.
She said: “It’s terrible.
“When they called me I went straight to the shop and went through to the drying area where Bonnie was lying on the floor with her tongue hanging out, struggling to breathe.
“She was dehydrated.
“They must have known that she would need a break from being dried because of the amount of hair she has.
“She was a lovely soul.
“We are all heartbroken.”
After her collapse on Saturday, Bonnie was soaked in water and had fluids on a drip.
But vets said her organs had already started to fail by then.
Kerrie added: “I am devastated, the whole family are.
“I am angry and I can’t believe [salon staff] never picked up on any signs of distress.
“The dog was being sick.
“They should have taken her outside for fresh air, given her some water and a break.
“She must have been showing signs that she wasn’t coping well.
“I just can’t understand why they thought they should just keep going.”
Last year, there were growing calls for the dog grooming industry to be regulated and a petition was submitted to the Scottish Government.
The groomers — Dogs R Divas in Glasgow — were contacted for comment.
