Skincare fans are going crazy for this FREE wrinkle treatment that is ‘better than Botox’… but some say it’s just gross
A 50-YEAR-OLD woman has revealed her secret to reversing ageing and it’s got skincare fans going wild.
But Shelly Bailey’s “better than Botox” anti-ageing hack has its gross side.
The mum-of-two uses over-ripe banana peel to tighten her skin and eradicate wrinkles.
Taking to Tik Tok, she shared her unconventional skincare treatment, which starts with peeling a totally brown banana.
She then spends two minutes rubbing the inside of the peel all over her face.
Shelly admitted: “Sure there’s no science to this… but I’m seeing results.
“It’s working for me and I want to share it again with you.”
The mortgage adviser dubs the process a “banana peel facial” and said you need a “very, very, very ripe banana”.
The one she used for the video was almost totally brown and “like what you’d use for banana bread”.
Shelly beamed: “It’s the cheapest facial you’ll ever purchase in your life – bananas.
“It does feel good when it’s cold.
“And you put it all over your skin like this.”
She showed how she firmly rubs the inside of the peel into her skin, including on the nose, under the eyebrows and across the mouth.
Shelly continued with banana fragments on her face: “Better than Botox.
“It’s yucky but if you lick your lips it’s really good.
“If you look up online the benefits they’re claiming – not scientifically – that work with banana peel facials, you’re going to do this once or twice a week.
“More vitamins than I can count in bananas, helps to reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles, it helps with inflammation, puffiness, redness.
“I leave it on for 30 minutes.”
She cements the routine by cleansing her face and then applying moisturiser.
Shelly’s hack split opinion, with some finding it outright gross and others vowing to try it.
Cleveland Clinic dermatologist Taylor Bullock affirmed that there is no scientific evidence to back up Shelly’s claims.
However, he did validate the antioxidant properties of banana peel.
Dr Bullock said: “In theory, you could probably get some antioxidants by rubbing the peel on your skin.
“Bananas are very rich in antioxidants.
“Antioxidants are naturally occurring substances that are great for your body, including your skin, and they’re a great addition to your skin care regimen.”
He advised that professionally designed antioxidant skincare products would likely be safer and more effective for the skin.
