You’ve been wearing your perfume all wrong – the shoulder technique is key
A FRAGRANCE fan has revealed the correct way you are supposed to wear perfume – and you’ve probably been doing it wrong.
In a video posted on TikTok, creator @funmimonet shared the “holy grail advice” to smelling like roses all day – here’s the secret.
The fragrance and beauty guru told her 360,000 followers that she often hears people complain about getting a headache when they wear a strong scent.
Funmi said: “I hate to be the one to say it but you’re probably wearing your perfume wrong.
“When most people wear their fragrances they spray right at the collarbone.
“But the thing is when you do that, your fragrance wafts up and will be in your nose all day.
“You should actually be spraying your perfume behind you, so behind your neck, behind your shoulders, behind your knees.”
She also advised people who use a lot of hand gestures when they talk not to apply perfume on their wrists.
“When you spray behind your body you still get a great scent bubble without getting that scent right under your nose”, she added.
People rushed to the comment section to share their amazement.
One wrote: “Holy grail advice. I’ve had to stop wearing so many fragrances because of this.”
Another posted: “This is so helpful, sometimes my old perfumes give me headaches because of their strength but I love them so much.”
“I’m so happy I saw this, I wear masks at work and my perfume can be suffocating because of it, great tip, thank you sis”, commented a third.
This comes as other beauty experts share their tops tips for making your perfumes last longer.
In a viral TikTok video with 5.2 million views, ‘Professor Perfume’, Emelia, warned against keeping fragrances in our bathrooms.
Despite bottles making aesthetically pleasing décor, varying temperatures in the room can be bad for your sprays.
She then goes on to explain: “If you keep your perfume in the bathroom when you shower, all of the steam.
“All of the constant temperature fluctuations are going to spoil your perfume a lot faster than if you store them correctly.”
Experts advise keeping your fragrances in cool and dark places, away from direct sunlight.
And there are also tips for keeping your perfume smelling sweet in the heat.
Thanks to sun, sea and sweat, our perfume can wear off quicker than ever during the summer months.
Rebecca Richmond, Perfume Expert at The Perfume Shop encouraged customers to: “Simply apply body lotion after sun exposure and showering and spritz your fragrance onto moisturised skin – this will lock in the scent.
“I recommend spraying your favourite scent on your elbows, behind your knees and even on your belly button to help prevent it lifting off too quickly when combining it with SPF.”
This was backed-up by another TikTok creator who recommended spritzing your perfume after applying Vaseline to the desired areas.
