India's Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has said that the country's highway infrastructure will match that of the US by 2024. The government is working on the Bharatmala 2 project to meet this goal, which will include constructing green expressways and rail-over-bridges. Gadkari said that Rs16,000 crore ($2.14bn) is being spent on building railways over bridges in 2021 alone, rising to Rs50,000 crore ($6.71bn) over the next five years.
