5 goals & 1 assist: Man Utd midfield trio in fine form during international break
Manchester United midfield trio Casemiro, Marcel Sabitzer and Scott McTominay have been in fine form for their respective countries during the international break.
Casemiro has been a revelation for the Red Devils with 11 goal contributions in his debut campaign and he was back on the scoresheet in yesterday’s friendly against Morocco.
The Brazilian, who was the captain on the night, bagged the equaliser following the hour mark but Abdelhamid Sabiri eventually won the game for the Atlas Lions.
Meanwhile, Sabitzer was exceptional for Austria. In the injury absence of David Alaba, he was the standing captain and produced one of the best performances of his international career.
Sabitzer bagged two goals and an assist in the 4-1 victory over Azerbaijan in the Euro 2024 qualifier. This included a stunning 30-yard free-kick which found the top left corner of the net.
Elsewhere, McTominay was only a second half substitute for Scotland against Cyprus last night, but was hugely influential in the 3-0 win. He bagged two late goals in the space of five minutes.
United boss Erik ten Hag would obviously prefer his players to get a breather during the international break, but he would not mind if they can replicate the scoring form at club level.
Casemiro is currently suspended for three more domestic games. The likes of Sabitzer and McTominay should be heavily involved for United when the season resumes after the internationals.
Fred is the other senior central midfielder available for selection. Christian Eriksen is not far away from making his comeback, but he may not be rushed back to action after his ankle injury.
