Morning Briefing: Last Day of Spring Training For Mets

Good morning, Mets fans!
Spring training 2023 comes to a close this afternoon as the Mets and Marlins play at 4:10 p.m. at Clover Park.
Of notable Mets news, Brett Baty and Mark Vientos will not be traveling with the team to Miami this week, the team announced.. Instead, they have both been reassigned to minor league camp and will remain in Port St. Lucie until Triple-A Syracuse heads back north to New York.

According to Michael Mayer of Metsmerized Online, the Mets have released first baseman/outfielder Matt Winaker, catcher Jake Ortega, and left-handed pitcher Cam Opp.
Per Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, according to a source, Tommy Hunter has been informed by the Mets that he will make the team’s opening day roster. Hunter had a contractual out he could have exercised on Saturday if the Mets did not agree to add him to the 40-man roster. This will be Hunter’s 16th major league season.
Anthony DiComo of MLB.com also reported on Saturday that left-handed pitchers David Peterson and Brooks Raley both threw in a minor league game on Saturday, stating that the outing went well. With Saturday’s appearance, Raley should be good to go for opening day (he has not thrown in a Grapefruit League game since straining his hamstring).
Per Tim Britton of The Athletic, Buck Showalter said on Saturday that Carlos Carrasco is “right where he needs to be” with his elbow. He will stay back in Port St. Lucie to pitch Tuesday before he meets back up with the team and makes his regular season debut next Monday in Milwaukee.

The Mets announced that they’ve reassigned left-handed pitcher Zach Muckenhirn, right-handed pitcher Denyi Reyes, catcher Michael Perez, infielders Jonathan Arauz and Jose Peraza, along with outfielder DJ Stewart to minor league camp.
