It’s maybe down to tight owners that we need unions you know. And despite you retiring in a couple of years, not every employee will be so fortunate
I would rather not be retiring mate, unfortunately age waits for no man,but I look at it like this I've done my time, move over for the younger generation, to be honest Rab I think retirement age should be lowered, giving the youngsters a chance of work, and let us old fogeys have a chance of doing something before the lid is nailed down

And who the eff would pay for that?

You know that they are having to consider raising the age because people live so long after retirement and it costs the state (ie the taxpayer) more and more?

I’m 45, I don’t think I’ll get a retirement age. I dread to think what my daughters generation are going to end up with.
Private pensions were introduced so people could plan to retire and have some money for the future, whether people live longer or not should not matter, when I retire what I paid in belongs to me, the reason why the government can't afford to pay for stuff is because they are quite happy to give billions to countries at war, money for asylum seekers, foreign aid etc and they are happy to see our pensioners sit almost penniless instead of looking after them, the time will come when state pension will be abolished all together, probably not in my lifetime but within the next 35-40 years, I will not sit back and feel guilty for spending what I put in to my pensions.

You will get more than you have paid in by doing nothing other than allowing your money to be invested into company stocks. Unless you specifically choose not to, the companies helping to grow your pot will include those making ‘billions from wars’, oil and gas etc etc.

Penniless pensioners do exist but considering that the voting demographic for pensioners is heavily weighted towards the Conservative Party then I’d hazard a guess it isn’t all of them.

I don’t see any issues with supporting the vulnerable in our society, in fact it should be mandatory. I also don’t see any issue with helping asylum seekers, providing foreign aid etc. These things aren’t mutually exclusive but they do make for a ‘good’ headline in the daily mail.
