'Positive': United star open to representing African nation after England snub - report
Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka has not ruled out the possibility of representing DR Congo on the international stage, according to Leopard Leader.
The right-back initially played for DR Congo at the youth level before switching his allegiance to England, but he has yet to earn an international call-up under Gareth Southgate.
It is now reported that Leopards head coach Sebastien Desabre spoke with Wan-Bissaka’s family recently and there was a ‘positive’ feedback from the conversations.
The 25-year-old has yet to commit to the East African nation, but it is claimed that his stance could become conclusive if DR Congo qualify for next year’s AFCON.
Wan-Bissaka likely to choose DR Congo over England
Wan-Bissaka has produced several stand-out performances for United since his move from Crystal Palace in 2019, but he has yet to earn an international call-up from England.
He was definitely in contention for the squad a couple of years ago, but Southgate preferred to give preference to Kyle Walker, Kieran Trippier, Reece James among others.
In our opinion, it seems unlikely that Wan-Bissaka will represent the Three Lions in future and he should give a serious consideration to play for the country of his parents.
DR Congo reached the third round of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers only to lose out to Morocco in the end. They should be in a better position for the next World Cup.
The country are presently fourth in their AFCON qualifying group, but they are just one point behind second-placed Mauritania and should still make the competition proper.
