Little known driving tip could save you £406 on fuel costs – here’s how
EXPERTS have revealed how a little-known driving tip could save you £406 on fuel costs.
Rising petrol and diesel prices have drained many motorists’ wallets – but this hack could help them get a better deal.
Apps like PetrolPrices can help you find the cheapest pump in a five-mile radius whenever you need to fill up.
Motorists could save as much as £25 a tank by comparing pump prices through the app.
That could translate into a saving on fuel costs of over £400 a year, if you consistently make the effort to drive to the cheapest pump in your area.
Drivers in Newcastle and Coventry stand to save the most out of any in England, with the app flagging discounts of up to £14.
But it is in Belfast, Northern Ireland that motorists stand to save over £25 a year by finding the cheapest local pump.
HippoLeasing’s expert Tom Preston told the Star: “Don’t wait for your dashboard light to flash to tell you to fill up.
“It will cost you on average 35p to drive an extra few miles to a cheaper station in the area.
“This would be worthwhile if the savings on pence per litre are dramatic enough.”
Motoring experts also suggest driving more slowly to economise on fuel.
Cutting your speed by 20mph could increase your motor’s MPG by as much as 45% – and allows you to save momentum by using your brakes more sparingly
Right Fuel Card’s David James said: “Using brakes less is a popular fuel-saving technique as it maximises your car’s stored momentum and energy.
“This can be done by thinking ahead and taking your foot off the accelerator in advance, to prevent slamming.
“We do not recommend that you avoid using your brakes completely as this can of course be dangerous.
“It’s also possible to allow the regenerative braking in an electric vehicle to handle most of the braking for you.”
It comes after a top money expert revealed how drivers can use a little-known 10-minute rule to appeal their parking ticket and win.
Scott Nelson also told The Sun that drivers should check their tickets for a hidden detail which could let them appeal successfully.
