Man Utd planning to beat Arsenal and Magpies to €50m striker deal - report
Manchester United have joined Arsenal and Newcastle United in the race to sign Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund this summer, according to Calciomercato.
The Denmark international has been in good form in 2023. He has eight goal contributions at club level and recently scored five goals in two Euro 2024 qualifiers.
Hence, there are no surprises that he is attracting high-profile interest and Calciomercato claim that United have now entered the pursuit of the 20-year-old.
Atalanta are not looking at selling their prized asset but it is reported that they would find it hard to refuse a package of around €50 million for his services.
The Serie A outfit have identified Boca Juniors striker Mateo Retegui as a possible replacement. Retegui recently made his Italy debut. He has scored in both outings.
United must beat Gunners and Magpies to Hojlund
Hojlund has managed only 10 goal involvements for Atalanta this campaign, but his performances since the turn of the year have been hugely impressive.
The Dane has caught the eye with his strong physique, good aerial presence and dribbling skills. He has also shown brilliant vision with goals from the six-yard box.
The youngster definitely has the potential to become an elite striker in future and United must grab the opportunity to sign him in the summer transfer window.
Arsenal and Newcastle are also in the mix for the player, but both of those clubs already have marquee strikers in Gabriel Jesus and Alexander Isak in their squads.
United, on the other hand, are yearning for a top-class marksman to lead the line amid Anthony Martial’s injury woes. Hojlund would be a brilliant long-term investment.
The youngster has already confessed that he is a huge United fan. This should boost the club’s prospects of signing him in case Atalanta receive similar offers on the table.
