Ireland vs France betting tips
Republic of Ireland had a free week on match day one so kick off their Euro 2024 qualification with a tough tie against France.
There remains no love lost between this pair from that infamous Thierry Henry handball incident back in 2009.
Despite having played each other twice since then, it still remains the talk on everybody’s lips.
Ireland beat Latvia in a friendly at the end of the last week in preparation for this game.
Brighton starlet Evan Ferguson was amongst the scorers to notch his first international goal on his first start.
While France’s qualifying campaign got off to the perfect start when seeing off second seeds Netherlands in an impressive 4-0 win in Paris.
It’s 48th in the world hosting the 3rd best side in world football – and the betting suggests just that.
Goal hero
Antoine Griezmann scored a very early opener in the win over the Dutch last Friday.
While there will be expected changes, the goalscoring playmaker should keep his place in behind the striker.
He picks up ridiculously clever positions in attack and will look to add to his four goals in his last six appearances for club and country.
There’s not too much value in him scoring anytime, so we’ve gone for him to outscore Ireland.
Caution: Matt vs Mbappe
Matt Doherty has only seen 12 minutes of game time since his switch to Atletico Madrid in January.
But he got 62 minutes in the win over Latvia and looks sure to keep his spot at right wing back.
His issue tonight? He’s likely to come up against Kylian Mbappe who plays off the left.
Any lacking in match sharpness will likely be punished, and with Theo Hernandez backing the French skipper up, it could be a busy night for Doherty.
King of the road
Picking the French line-up is tricky for tonight, particularly after a game just a few days ago.
But we’re happy to take the punt on Kingsley Coman taking his place in the front three.
Even if not, changes will be made throughout the game, so a tired Irish defence could be perfect for him to make an impact coming on.
