Seafood is a widely loved cuisine in America, with an ever-growing demand for it in various forms. In fact, the industry has been projected to grow with a 4.4% compound annual growth from 2021 to 2026. With this comes the rise of many seafood restaurants, all offering easy access to a wide variety of seafood fusion dishes.
Located at the heart of Gladewater, Texas, popular restaurant Skipper’s Pier Coastal Cajun Kitchen is a full-service restaurant that has carved a niche for itself in the highly competitive seafood industry with its unique blend of traditional Cajun dishes with a coastal twist, showcasing its commitment to offering a unique dining experience.
Skipper’s Pier Coastal Cajun Kitchen was founded by industry restaurant veteran Scott Nordon and his wife, Lisa Scott, in September 2022. Tagged as the “Home For Crawfish,” it features the house specialty seafood, fresh and mouth-watering crawfish, and other house favorites such as shrimp and grilled catfish.
From its delectable menu boasting the freshest ingredients to the inviting restaurant atmosphere and excellent customer service, Skipper’s Pier Coastal Cajun Kitchen is poised as one of the best seafood restaurants in East Texas.
Skipper’s Pier Coastal Cajun Kitchen’s iconic menu
Skipper’s Pier Coastal Cajun Kitchen prides itself on its fresh and locally sourced ingredients. According to Scott, their menu features a delicious array of seafood and Cajun-inspired dishes with starters, including traditional favorites like gumbo and seafood bisque, as well as unique options like fried alligator bites. According to Scott, diners can choose from a variety of seafood dishes, including shrimp, oysters, catfish, and salmon, for the main course. Their daily specials showcase the freshest catches of the day, such as crawfish étouffée.
Scott states, “Our commitment to freshness is evident in their farm-to-table offerings, such as the shrimp and grits dish made with stone-ground grits from nearby East Texas farms, inspired by flavors from all three coasts of the United States.”
Topping their menu, the seafood restaurant offers classic sweet favorites such as bread pudding and pecan pie, the perfect desserts to cap off any meal.
An inviting atmosphere and renowned customer service
Scott takes pride in Skipper’s Pier Coastal Cajun Kitchen’s warm and inviting ambiance, providing the perfect atmosphere for diners to enjoy their meal. He shares that the restaurant is situated in a historic building built in the 1930s renovated to provide a comfortable and cozy dining experience. The decor pays homage to the local fishing industry, with nautical touches like wooden ship wheels and antique fishing nets adorning the walls and Gladewater’s reputation as the Antique Capital of East Texas.
The restaurant’s friendly and attentive staff ensures that every guest feels welcome and is cared for. They are knowledgeable about the menu and offer recommendations to diners new to Cajun cuisine. The exceptional service provided by the staff adds to the overall dining experience.
Scott shares, “Our amazing food is what it’s all about. But without good food, without good service, you really don’t have a restaurant or business model. So we also give emphasis on ensuring that our good food is topped by amazing customer service.”
Adding to the ultimate dining experience, the restaurant also opened a Sundeck Bar where adults can enjoy live music and karaoke every Thursday-Sunday.
Scott Nordon’s 35 years of excellent entrepreneurial and restaurant experiences
Scott graduated in 1985 from the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. Even before opening Skipper’s Pier Coastal Cajun Kitchen, he has had extensive business and culinary experience founding and building several restaurants such as Roost Chicken Salad + Deli and The Catch, another casual seafood restaurant in East Texas.
According to Scott, he began his career as an apprentice for Clipper Cruise Line, but because of his hard work and talent, he was promoted as Executive Chef. He has since expanded his culinary roles in restaurants, including Mansion on Turtle Creek, Club Corp, Four Seasons, and Uncle Julios, to name a few.
Lisa Nordon, Scott’s wife, also came from the service industry, particularly in the cruise ship line. Together, they continue on their journey of providing new and excellent dining experiences for people in the US and tourists from all over the world.
