Blow for Man Utd as 25-goal star's asking price has been raised by €50m - report
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis remains firm on his €150 million valuation for Victor Osimhen amid interest from Manchester United, Gazzetta dello Sport claim.
The Nigerian star has been in terrific form for the Naples outfit this campaign, scoring 25 goals and providing five assists from 29 appearances in all competitions.
Ahead of the summer, Osimhen has talked up a possible exit but it is reported that De Laurentiis will only discuss his departure if a club meets the €150m asking price.
United are currently one of the main candidates to sign Osimhen, who was valued at €100m last summer. Napoli have raised the price tag amid his exceptional displays in Serie A.
United have big decision to make over new striker
United desperately need a goalscoring striker ahead of next season. They may have to break their transfer record in order to pursue a marquee signing from a top European side.
Osimhen is currently in the prime of his career and would be a perfect acquisition. The Nigerian is strongly built, is good in the air and has excellent finishing skills in the box.
The big question is whether United will be ready to spend €150m on him. A possible takeover in the coming weeks could boost the club’s chances of purchasing Osimhen.
However, the scenario could be different if the Glazers resist the prospect of selling the club. If they opt for minority investment, there could be a limited summer budget.
In our opinion, this could be a huge factor in the pursuit of Osimhen. A slightly cheaper alternative would be Benfica’s Goncalo Ramos, who could be prised away for €120m.
If United are reluctant to spend big, they could turn their attention to emerging young strikers such as Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund or RB Salzburg’s Benjamin Sesko
