Andrew Vaughn Outperforms José Abreu
Aldo: Andrew Vaughn makes 2023 American League All-Star Team and has a better season than José Abreu.
I’m jumping on the Andrew Vaughn bandwagon. While I haven’t been a Vaughn naysayer since he first came up to the big leagues with the White Sox, he certainly hasn’t matched the production based on all the hype you heard about him from his biggest supporters. But the right-handed hitter has taken steps to improve throughout his first two MLB seasons and in terms of having a better season than José Abreu, well regression has to eventually hit for the former White Sox first baseman.
White Sox End With a Pair of Aces
Zo: The Chicago White Sox will have two pitchers finish in the top-10 of American League Cy Young Award voting.
My thoughts: Dylan Cease finished second in 2022 for AL Cy Young, behind Houston Astros starting pitcher Justin Verlander. Cease is one of the favorites to win the award in 2023 and there are a couple pitchers on the staff that have finished in the top-10 in voting before. Lucas Giolito was sixth in 2019, seventh in 2020 and also 11th in 2021. Meanwhile, Lance Lynn was fifth in 2019, sixth in 2020 and third in 2021. With a normal offseason, I can see Lynn or Giolito return to form and finish in the top-10 of Cy Young voting along side Cease.
Lucas Giolito Balls Out in Contract Year
KFidds: Lucas Giolito will pitch in the 2023 All-Star Game.
My thoughts: Lucas Giolito was bad in 2022, but previous to that he had a track record from 2019-21, in which he was one a top-10 pitcher in the American League. Giolito will be a free agent following this season, so he has to prove that he is the pitcher from a few years ago and not the one from 2022. I like this prediction.
First-Time Manager? No Problem
Mitch: Pedro Grifol wins 2023 American League Manager of the Year after turning around the White Sox.
My thoughts: The White Sox should hang around in the division race and they certainly have the talent to win the AL Central title. After the shit-show in 2022, a return to the playoffs under first-time manager Pedro Grifol could definitely see him win manager of the year.
