Sheffield tragedy: Family pay tribute to Marcia Grant killed after being hit by car as boy, 12, arrested on ‘murder’
A HEARTBROKEN family have paid tribute after losing their ‘loving and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother’ in a car collision.
Marcia Grant, 60, was killed on Wednesday, April 5, after a 12-year-old boy allegedly run her over with her own car.
The social worker was pronounced dead at the scene in the Greenhill area of Sheffield, Yorkshire, when emergency services arrived just after 7pm.
A statement from Marcia Grant’s family read: “Marcia was a warm, loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend and a pillar of her community.
“Her loss has already sent shockwaves through all who knew her or was lucky enough to be included in her orbit.
“We ask for privacy at this time while further investigations are underway and the Family try to come to terms with this enormous loss.”
A 12-year-old boy has been questioned by police on suspicion of murder following the tragic incident.
The boy, also suspected of carrying a blade, was arrested for her murder shortly afterwards, South Yorkshire Police confirmed.
A spokesman said: “Officers attended alongside Yorkshire Ambulance Service, and South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, to find a woman in her 60s suffering serious injuries. She sadly died at the scene.
“A 12-year-old boy was located a short time later and arrested on suspicion of murder and possession of a bladed article. He remains in police custody.”
Det Chief Insp Andrea Bowell said: “This will be a deeply distressing time for the families of those involved in this incident, and I would ask their privacy is respected as they seek to understand what has happened.”
Pictures from the scene showed the car on the road with a black tarpaulin over the passenger window.
Police sealed off the scene as forensic officers examined the silver Honda Accord.
It appeared to have been reversed out of a driveway of a smart semi-detached home, with the victim thought to have been trapped under the rear of the vehicle.
Floral tributes laid nearby paid tribute to Miss Grant, who was described as a “beautiful soul”.
One shocked neighbour said: “I was drinking my tea and heard a bang and then we saw people milling around and then the ambulances and police turned up.
“It looks like they might have tried to free her because there are two car jacks abandoned in her driveway.”
Another resident said: “I didn’t really know her but I know she lived there with a couple of young boys.
“It is a nice area around here. It just goes to show this sort of thing can happen anywhere.”
And another neighbour said: “Everyone was wondering what was going on — they’d cordoned the whole area off.
“I’ve never known anything like it around here.
“She went into the ambulance and never came out.”
