Easter Bank Holiday forecast: Brits to soak up 15C today as long weekend kicks off – and it’s only going to get better
BRITS are set to soak up 15C today as the Easter Bank Holiday weekend kicks off – and it’s going to get better.
Partygoers have already hit the streets to welcome in the extended break and sunny weather is on the way, according to the Met Office.
Forecasters are predicting a “fine weekend” for most areas of the nation, with extended sunny spells throughout.
A cold start today is expected give way to warmer conditions as the mercury nudges the mid-teens, with 15C forecast in the area around Dartford, Kent, this afternoon.
Clear skies are forecast this evening as people enjoy the first of four days off.
Some areas, particularly coastal regions of the North East, could see some light fog and low cloud, but most are set to see a pleasant day.
It’s only predicted to get better too, as the Met’s official Easter weekend forecast states that temperatures could climb to 17C tomorrow.
There’s bad news for hay fever sufferers, though, as the pollen count is predicted to be either high or very high everywhere from the Midlands down to the South West on Friday and Saturday, before dropping off on Sunday.
Airbourne allergens expert Max Wiseberg said: “We’ve had the first high pollen counts this week, and after a couple of days of rain and cloud millions of trees will be triggered into releasing pollen over the holiday weekend.”
The Met’s forecast for Saturday states: “Early low cloud in the east slowly breaking. Elsewhere, plenty of warm sunshine again, though turning rather breezy in the West.”
Going into the back end of the weekend, it says: “Dry for most on Sunday with some sunshine. Rain arriving in the West later heralding the change to more unsettled conditions into next week.”
Beyond that, Easter Monday is, unfortunately, forecast to be damp, as a weather system sweeps in from the Atlantic, bringing rain for much of the country.
David Oliver, a Met Office Deputy Chief forecaster, said: “During the second half of the Easter weekend the Atlantic will increasingly exert its influence.
“A frontal system is expected to move in from the west and displace the high pressure lying across the UK.
“This will spread rain across all areas during the latter part of Easter Sunday and through Easter Monday, although there is some uncertainty regarding its exact timing.
“Once the rain clears blustery showers are likely to follow in its wake across many areas.”
Meanwhile, Brits are struggling with travel mayhem at Dover, where long queues as gridlocked motorways and riots in France cause the holiday from hell.
The delays saw families sitting bumper to bumper for hours on end as they waited to board ferries.
