People are only just realising why postal workers write ‘P’ on letters, and it’s blowing their minds
HAVE you ever had a letter through the door with a P on it?
If you had, and wondered what it means, it’s all to do with a secret code for the postal worker.
One person took to Reddit to share a picture of a letter with a P in a circle on the front, questioning what it meant.
And people were quick to respond, with one writing: “It means Parcel.
“For either yourself or the next delivery. It’s a reminder for the postman / postwoman.”
“I used to just turn a letter so it was facing the wrong way in the bundle,” another said.
“Should have done cryptic symbols instead.”
“It’s the postie’s way of reminding themselves that when they come to post your letter there’s also a parcel for you,” a third commented.
“That’s so they don’t post your letter then find out halfway down the street they forgot to knock and give you your parcel.
“Or sometimes they’ll write P10 or something on the previous letter – that lets them know they have a parcel for next door (number 10) but no letter.”
“It means Parcel,” someone else said.
“For either yourself or the next delivery. It’s a reminder for the postman/postwoman.”
The theories were then confirmed by a real-life postman, who wrote: “You had a packet/parcel. Stops us from forgetting about it!”
One person got it completely wrong though, commenting: “It’s what thieves use to mark your house to let others know you have expensive dogs.”
