Connecticut-based manufacturer to close Pa. facility; 72 people to be laid off
A label and packaging manufacturer based in Connecticut will close a facility in Pennsylvania and will move operations from that location to facilities in New York and Illinois.
Brook + Whittle has filed a WARN notice with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry. The company has informed the state it will close its facility at 3001 State Road in Bristol Township, Bucks County near Croydon and that 72 employees will be laid off.
The company said in the WARN notice that the facility will be closed as a result of economic downturn in its business. The WARN notice was dated March 21 and the company said employees were notified that day. The last day for most employees will be May 25. Nine employees are expected work until July or August. Six employees have already resigned.
The company provided the following statement:
“Brook + Whittle announced Tuesday, March 21 the decision to close the Croydon, PA facility, due to a slowdown in demand. Our focus is on supporting employees through the transition, giving the option to apply for roles at other facilities, and working with local officials to assist workers who wish to stay in the Croydon area. We will consolidate the Croydon operations into our Amherst, NY and Northbrook, IL facilities over the coming weeks and months. This was a difficult decision, and we would like to thank all our employees for the hard work and dedication over the years and we wish them success for the future.”
The WARN Act is federal legislation that offers protection to workers, their families and communities by requiring employers to provide notice 60 days in advance of a covered-business closing and covered-business mass layoff.
Brook + Whittle has 15 operations across the United States.
