CT included in red flag warning fire watch issued by National Weather service
The National Weather Service has issued a “Red Flag Warning” fire watch for all of Southern New England, excluding Cape Cod and the islands, for Friday.
The Fire Weather Watch is in effect from noon Friday through 8 p.m., according to the service.
The service forecast relative humidity as low as 23 percent, and winds of 15 mph to 25 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph.
The dry weather and gusty winds “will result in potentially critical fire weather conditions,” the service said in the issued watch.
“A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, .or will shortly. Any fires that start may spread rapidly and become difficult to extinguish.”
Meanwhile, a weak cold front will be crossing the state on Friday resulting in partly sunny skies, breezy and cooler conditions with high temperatures in the 50s, meteorologist Gary Lessor said.
Saturday will be mostly sunny and seasonable with highs in the mid-50s as high pressure moves into the Great Lakes region, Lessor said.
The high pressure will “pretty much settle” into southern New England Sunday and Monday with clear skies, Lessor said.
High temperatures will be in the mid to upper 50s on Sunday and then in the mid-60s on Monday. Readings could break the 70-degree mark Tuesday, he said.
