I’m at university but mum constantly messages me – she won’t let me grow up

0

DEAR DEIDRE: MY 42-year-old single mum is driving me crazy.

I’d love to block her but how could I do that to my own mother?

I know she means well but she won’t let me grow up and live my life.

I’m an 18-year-old lad, in my first year at uni.

We’ve always been close, but I need to be independent.

Yet she messages me several times every day to see how I am. It’s honestly starting to feel like bullying.

She even follows me on social media and, if she sees I’m online, sends me another message.

I’ve told her I’m fine and will ring if I need anything.

DEIDRE SAYS: It’s hard for a mother to see her child grow up and leave home.

She’s probably anxious and a bit lonely. Tell her you love her but the endless messages stress you out.

Perhaps suggest specific times to chat. My support pack, Standing Up For Yourself will help.
