Police search for missing mother after ‘suspicious’ disappearance
Police in Minnesota are searching for information about the ‘suspicious’ disappearance of a mother of two last week.
Madeline Kingsbury, 26, was last seen the morning of March 31 when she dropped her two children, ages 5 and 2, off at daycare around 8.00am.
‘Maddie did not show up for work, which is very unlike her, and we are worried for her safety,’ Winona Police Chief Tom Williams said at a press conference on Wednesday.
She then returned home in her blue Chrysler minivan. Kingsbury’s partner and the father of their children told investigators he left the home in the minivan around 10.00am. When he returned, she was gone.
‘Nothing to date has indicated that Maddie left the residence on foot or in another vehicle,’ Williams said. Additionally, investigators searched her home and found Kingsbury’s ‘phone, the jacket she had been wearing earlier in the morning, along with her wallet and ID.’
‘Based on all of this we believe Maddie’s disappearance is involuntary, suspicious, and we are all concerned for her safety,’ Williams said.
Investigators have noted that a vehicle similar to Kingsbury’s minivan was seen driving in Winona County and Fillmore County.
But after a week of searching, investigators still have not identified a suspect or person of interest.
On Friday, about 700 volunteers gathered to search two locations for any sign of the missing mother.
‘This is tough terrain, and we are grateful to the hundreds of volunteers who are grateful for taking their personal time to assist with the search,’ Williams said.
He confirmed that the investigation remains ‘very active,’ and police are still treating it as a missing persons case.
He also asked landowners and homeowners in three surrounding counties to search their properties and check any doorbell or trail cameras they have set up.
‘Walk your property if you haven’t done so already. Look for signs of anything suspicious, a disturbance, or anything out of place,’ Williams said. ‘We remain very hopeful that we will bring Maddie back home to her family.’
Kingsbury’s family has also offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to her whereabouts.
