Lawyer sues woman claiming she used his sperm to get pregnant without consent
A LAWYER is suing a woman for £50,000 claiming she used his sperm to make herself pregnant without his consent.
James May, 33, says that he suffered “emotional distress” when he discovered he had allegedly been duped.
Although the circumstances are not known, it is claimed that the woman, in her 30s, “intentionally impregnated herself” in June or July 2018.
Mr May, from Cambridge, only found out four months later, papers submitted to London’s High Court reveal.
He is seeking damages caused by her “negligence, deceit” and “conversion” — a legal term meaning to interfere with someone’s personal possessions without lawful justification.
It is believed to be the first such case in the UK.
Family law expert Anuradha Kurl said: “It’s highly unusual.
“If it emerges a child was born and the claimant’s the legal father, he’s opening himself up to financial contributions and emotional turmoil he, the mother and child would no doubt endure.”
Mr May and the woman, who we are not naming, declined to comment.
