The Bruins are on the precipice of setting NHL history following their 2–1 win over the Devils on Saturday. The victory against New Jersey was Boston’s 62nd of the season, which ties the all-time NHL mark for a regular season.
The Bruins’ 62nd win draws them even with the 1995-96 Red Wings and 2018-19 Lightning. Boston has three games left on the regular season slate in order to push themselves above Detroit and Tampa Bay and stand alone in league history.
The team will be on the road against the Flyers on Sunday before returning to Boston for a matchup against the Capitals on Tuesday. They’ll then travel north of the border to face the Canadiens in their regular-season finale. None of their three upcoming opponents have records above .500.
Additionally, they can shatter the all-time single-season points record, which is held by the 1976-77 Canadiens. The Bruins (129) are three points shy of the record 132 points Montreal registered 46 years ago. Boston needs two wins in their final three games to break the all-time mark, and could tie it with one win and one overtime loss.
Having already locked up the No. 1 seed, boasting more than a 20-point gap between themselves and the No. 2 seed Hurricanes, the Bruins will look to etch their name into the league history books during the final stretch of the regular season.
