Match Preview: Farnborough vs Tonbridge Angels
Farnborough return to action for their second game of the Easter weekend as Tonbridge Angels make the trip to the Easy As HGV Stadium.
It was a disappointing result on Good Friday for Boro, as they conceded a last-minute winner to lose away at Chelmsford City 3-2, in a game that could prove costly for The Yellows Play-Off chances.
The defeat has left Farnborough in 10th place, three points off the Play-Off places with five games remaining in the season, but a win against Tonbridge Angels would see Boro right back in the hunt.
Monday’s visitors have managed just one win in their last five fixtures, a 4-3 thriller against Hungerford Town, in a run that has been very damaging to their Play-Off hopes.
The Angels sit one place below Farnborough, only behind The Yellows on goal difference and will be looking to regain their form for the final four games of their season in a hope to reach the final Play-Off places.
Boro boss Spencer Day spoke about the magnitude of the next game going into the remainder of the season: “We need to get everybody we can find down to our place on Bank Holiday Monday, against a team that’s as in the Play-Off race as we are. It’s literally a Cup Final Play-Off decider almost. We’ve got five of them to do. Every game is huge.”
“We’re falling just a little bit short; praise can come at the end of the season. Right now, I’m interested in getting us into these Play-Offs. Everyone’s got to dig deep again.”
Boro will possibly be without John Oyenuga for the visit of Tonbridge Angels, after a very worrying incident in the game against Chelmsford City that saw him stretchered off with what looked like a nasty head injury.
Day commented: “Obviously, he was very well looked after by everybody so we’re very grateful to everybody. Thankfully he’s ok. We’ll have to assess what the situation is with him. Obviously, his health is absolutely the priority. We’ll see where he is in the next few days.”
Boro and Tonbridge Angels have come together 10 times in total. The Angels have come out on top in the more recent fixtures, winning the previous four matches. However, Farnborough won all six games prior to that.
It’s another huge game in the Play-Off run in. Let’s get back to winning ways. Come on Farnborough!
