UK weather: Brits to soak up 16C sun today – but rain is on its way in just DAYS
BRITS are set to soak up a sunny 16C today – but forecasters have warned that rain is on the way in just a few days.
The Met Office expects today’s warm weather to give way to cooler temperatures and a wet weekend.
Parts of the South Coast are predicted to see the mercury nudge 16C later this afternoon, while highs in the mid-teens are expected in most areas.
Western areas are forecast to see temperatures in the high teens.
Similar temperatures are expected tomorrow, before colder, wetter weather sweeps in from the South East on Friday.
The Met’s forecast for today reads: “Cloudy at times for the southern half of England and much of Wales, with a scattering of showers in the southwest, these clearing later.
“Fine and clear elsewhere, though breezy… temperatures near normal to rather warm.”
Going forward, the predictions for the weekend say: “Increasingly unsettled and cooler with showers or longer spells of rain for many places, turning wintry in the North on Sunday.”
A band of sometimes heavy rain is set to swirl up from the northern European coastline, hitting much of East Anglia and the Midlands by Friday morning.
Wet weather is predicted to blanket the southern half of the UK for much of the day, before creeping northwards on Saturday.
Scattered showers are then expected across the country on Sunday, before easing off and leaving most parts clear by that evening.
The Met’s long-range forecast for next week states: “Unsettled conditions likely on Sunday, with showers or longer spells of rain for most areas.
“Some sunny spells away from more persistent areas of rain. Windy conditions expected further north.
“Into the start of the week, a north/north-easterly flow is likely across northern areas, leading to temperatures widely below average and the risk of a wintry shower.
“Further south, there is more uncertainty with a chance of more organised rain at times but a mixture of sunny spells and showers for most.”
