Jason Manford ‘freaks out’ and calls in police as young daughter’s phone is ‘taken over’ by stranger
JASON Manford was left ‘freaked out’ and called in police after his young daughter’s phone was ‘taken over’ by a stranger.
The comedian, 41, revealed he had a furious phone call with a man in India who rang his mobile from his daughter’s number.
Describing the whole experience as “odd”, Jason explained to fans how he had received “loads of texts” from his daughter while she was sitting beside him, and they weren’t from her phone.
The messages asked for a password to ‘unlock’ the phone.
Father-of-six Jason said: “I thought someone had hacked my daughter’s phone somehow and was texting them back trying to work out what the hell was happening.
“I didn’t believe it was real and then they sent me actual photos of her and her friends off her iCloud! As well as screenshots of her Snapchat chats with her friends!”
The man told Jason he’d bought the phone from a ‘dodgy’ shop and couldn’t reset it without the old password, which Jason refused to give.
Jason continued: “I told him I was calling the police and he deleted everything he sent and blocked me!”
After racking his brain, Jason figured out what had happened and how the phone had come to be sold in a shop abroad.
He said: “I worked out that my dad took (and lost!) my daughter’s old iPhone 6 to Australia LAST February & it must’ve found it’s way into a phone shop in Dubai or somewhere and this Indian fella must’ve got it.
“Anyway it came back online today cos my daughter noticed pictures that were not her appearing on her photos! I’ve now managed to log in, find it (somewhere near New Delhi!) and erase and Remove it from her iCloud etc!”
His followers were shocked by the ordeal.
One said: “This isn’t weird, it’s terrifying! As parents we now have so little control over our children’s lives, but also their online presence.
The only thing we can do is Teach Them Well.”
Another posted: “Scary stuff! Just shows how easy it is to get hold of someone’s identity in this disposable technical world we live in!!! Glad you sorted the security for your daughter and relieved you were sat with her when it happened.”
While a third joked: “You need to adopt the role of Liam Neeson now.”
