I’m a glam OAP like Helen Mirren – my hubby loves my beautiful long hair and it saves me money, I ignore the haters
ONE of the UK’s most glamorous pensioners has slammed the suggestion that people of a certain age shouldn’t have long hair.
Suzy Monty, who has been modelling for over 50 years, was shocked to find that Hollywood legend Dame Helen Mirren was criticised for having flowing locks at 77.
At 72, she can sympathise with the iconic actress and doesn’t understand why anyone would have an issue with it.
She says: “My mother wouldn’t let me have long hair whilst I was at school, so as soon as I left school, I let my hair grow and grow.
“My husband loves my long hair and jokingly said, if ever I had it cut short he would divorce me.
“We celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary this year.
“Plus the wonderful feeling of wind in one’s long hair. Nothing like it.
“I love my thick hair. Even in his 80s my late dad had a good head of hair. He didn’t go bald. I’ve inherited his hair genes. For which I’m thankful.
“My late mother had her hair permed at my age. So I’ve complete freedom from that palaver. She would go to bed with her hair in mini rollers.
“My hair is very easy to style. Hubby says I’ve saved him so many pounds in hairdressing charges.”
Thankfully, Suzy also has advice for people who want hair like hers.
She adds: “ I don’t dye my hair. So it’s very easy to maintain. During Lockdown, my hubby cut my fringe.
“Whilst my contemporaries in Lock down were showing through their grey hair because they couldn’t get to a hairdresser, my locks remained the same natural colour.
“A hundred brush strokes a night keeps the follicles in good condition.”
