LinkedIn released its list of great companies in the US for career growth, and Amazon took the top spot.
A few banking and tech companies, such as Citi and Verizon, also ranked high on the list.
LinkedIn's Andrew Seaman recommends ensuring your skills are aligned if you're interested in applying to one of the companies.
Amazon, Wells Fargo, and JPMorgan Chase & Co. are strong companies for career growth according to LinkedIn.
LinkedIn released its annual list of the greatest US companies for career growth. The ranking this year was based on eight factors, or what LinkedIn calls pillars. For instance, one pillar involves focusing on attrition and retention, another focused on advancement opportunities, and another on workers' educational attainment.
"I think really what's interesting about this list is how holistic it is in terms of highlighting companies that are really helping people develop and grow in their careers in pretty much every direction that you can think of," Andrew Seaman, senior managing editor for jobs and career development for LinkedIn News, told Insider. "So instead of just being a great place to put on your résumé, these companies are really devoted to growing and nurturing their employees."
The list, according to Seaman, shows people companies with long-term career opportunities, as well as "places that feature learning opportunities, that are equitable, that have a strong company culture, and obviously that they are aligning with job seekers' values, and also that they're hiring."
Seaman said that many of these top companies per the analysis "are embracing skills-first hiring." Additionally, Seaman told Insider that the top thing job seekers looking to land work at one of the companies "is to make sure that your skills align with what what the job openings are."
Boeing, AT&T, and UnitedHealth Group were among the top 15 this year.
"When you look at the top, I think you see a really nice diverse set of employers — from healthcare to tech and finance," Seaman said.
While the companies may be good for long-term career growth per the new analysis, some have made headlines for job cuts. While Amazon ranked No. 1 on the list, it has laid off many employees over the last few months. Wells Fargo and Alphabet are two other companies that ranked high on the list that have made recent job cuts.
Below are the top 15 companies on LinkedIn's new list. Insider noted below some information, like the most common job titles, provided by LinkedIn using the networking site's member and employee data for the parent company and its majority-owned subsidiaries.
Top locations in the US included below are places that "employed the largest percentage of each company," per LinkedIn. Job titles noted for some of the employers below are those that are the "most common within each company," while the "largest job function measures the function area most prevalent within each company." The most notable skills noted for some of the companies below are based on "the most frequent unique skills among a company's employees, relative to other companies," per LinkedIn.
15. Accenture

According to LinkedIn, the top US locations based on employment are Washington, DC; New York City; and Chicago. Business consultant, software engineer, and strategic planning manager are also the three most common job titles, per LinkedIn.

LinkedIn listed banker, investment analyst, and compliance manager as the most common job titles at Citi. While LinkedIn noted finance and business development as large job functions, it also noted information technology as another big one.

LinkedIn noted sales, operations, and engineering as the largest job functions for Comcast. Additionally, media skills like journalism and radio production, as well as web hosting, are notable skills for this company.

The three common job titles at the telecommunications company, according to LinkedIn, are account manager, software engineer, and customer service representative. LinkedIn noted to Insider that the company got rid of GPA and degree requirements for lots of its positions.

The top US locations per LinkedIn were Seattle, St. Louis, and Los Angeles. LinkedIn also noted the company's Leadership NeXt program, a two-year program that includes mentorship opportunities, as one way that Boeing focuses on upward mobility at the company.

The most common job titles per LinkedIn are for different health care professionals: registered nurse, medical doctor, and healthcare assistant. While one of the largest job functions include healthcare services, LinkedIn noted information technology and operations as two of the other biggest functions.

For the technology consultancy, LinkedIn noted Chicago, New York City, and the San Francisco Bay Area as the top US locations. The company has a one-year entry-level employment program called Thoughtworks University.

For this tech company, the most notable skills per LinkedIn include mobile application development, computer hardware, and artificial intelligence. The largest job functions don't involve just tech though. According to LinkedIn, they are engineering, information technology, and sales.

The most common job titles per LinkedIn are software engineer, business analyst, and customer service representative. According to LinkedIn, the most notable skills for this company relate to healthcare: healthcare management, pharmaceutics, and nursing.

The top locations in the US per LinkedIn are Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas; Atlanta; and New York City. Per LinkedIn, a low share of job positions at the company actually need a college degree. The most common job titles per LinkedIn include salesperson, shop manager, and software engineer.

The top locations in the US for Alphabet, the parent company of Google, are the San Francisco Bay Area, New York City, and Seattle per LinkedIn. The most common job titles per LinkedIn are software engineer, program manager, and product manager.

The most common job titles per LinkedIn are mainly related to finance: financial advisor, banker, and wealth manager. While one of the largest job functions noted by LinkedIn also included finance, business development and sales were two other big job functions.

The most common job titles are banker, software engineer, and project manager, per LinkedIn. The most notable skills noted by LinkedIn were mainly related to finance. They are commercial banking, capital markets, and financial accounting.

"I think a lot of what we see with financial institutions is that they've always been seen as good employers, but now especially with the tie up with tech, I think it makes them even more attractive," Seaman added, noting that may be why this company and others ranked highly.
Per LinkedIn, the company is also a partner employer with OneTen, "a coalition of leading chief executives and their companies" that aims to hire and help advance Black workers who don't have a four-year degree, according to a press release.
Banker, business consultant, and bank teller were the three most common job titles noted by LinkedIn.

"It's one of those sort of employers that obviously they have strong numbers and historically that is one of the places where other companies are looking for top talent," Seaman said about Amazon.
The most common job titles per LinkedIn are software engineer, package handler, and supply chain associate. As LinkedIn noted, the company also has a program called Career Choice, which is a pre-paid tuition program for hourly workers.
