The following day after the video went viral, Jessica spoke out on social media to clarify the situation, as fans began speculating that perhaps she wasn’t offered the right amount of money to take the job, or that the script was bad.
“I’ve been asked multiple times by fans, to sign books that I’m not attached to contractually. Because it feels wrong, and like Im taking credit for someone else’s work, I’ll say I cant sign because I’m not doing it. That doesn’t mean I’ve read a bad script,” she said.
“I know how excited many you are about adaptations. Please dont read too much into a video. There is no news about anything. Except that I’m onstage until June 10th. Hope to see you ???? #ADollsHouse.”
Fans have been campaigning for her casting since it was announced that Netflix would be adapting the popular novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid.
If you’re unaware, it’s about a reclusive, iconic Hollywood starlet Evelyn Hugo, who enlists unknown reporter Monique Grant to write her tell-all book, which will chronicle her life story and rise to fame during the golden age of Hollywood.
Jessica is currently starring in the Broadway production of A Doll’s House at the Hudson Theatre.
